Devotional Guide for Friday, November 16

Acts 28:17-31

Reflect
What do you do when someone disregards your message? When we are sharing our faith or even trying to have conversations with our friends and neighbours it can be discouraging when they do not reciprocate enthusiasm (or sometimes even interest) in the things of God. Do we let ourselves get discouraged to the point of giving up? A few weeks ago I wrote about how important it is to not write people off, that God may be at work in the most unsuspecting people, so we should always be ready to speak and share truth to people even if we think it will not be reciprocated. That said, it can be quite discouraging when it seems like we can’t get through to people! Today we read about the Apostle Paul stepping out in faith and boldly proclaiming the good news of the gospel to the Jews. Interestingly, it says that “some received the truth, and some would not believe.” Let’s look at Paul’s response. He doesn’t get discouraged by those who are not receiving. In fact, it amps up his enthusiasm to share the gospel with those who are open.
Application to go deep: Where do you go when you face rejection from friends and neighbours? Take a moment to ask Jesus how He is proud of you for taking that step of faith. See what He says!
Application to go wide: Think about who may be open to a conversation about the gospel and start praying for opportunities to engage with them. If they reject you, believe that God may open other doors!
