Devotional Guide for Friday, December 7

Luke 1:1-25

Reflect
Today we read the beginning of Luke’s account of the birth of Jesus. Rather than starting right with the story of Jesus’ birth, Luke wants to help us understand some of the important events that occurred to ‘set the stage’ for Jesus’ coming. One of those events was the birth of John the Baptist. John’s father and mother were unable to conceive children and were well advanced in years when she became pregnant with John. While this in itself is a miracle, it did not come without pain. Because of Zechariah’s refusal to believe that God would give him a son, Zechariah was made mute until John was born. I want us to consider today how we react to the promises of God. I think it’s easy for us to start believing that ‘God can’t do this or that’ because our circumstances shape our theology (understanding of God). This Christmas I want to invite you to ask God to reveal Himself to you through His word and in your circumstances. If something seems extraordinary, that may be the very thing God wants to do in your life!

Apply
Rather than writing something off that we believe is true of God because it seems impossible, let’s lean in and believe for greater things!
