Reflect
The coming of a child changes the world of the home it enters. Our English word “advent” comes from the Latin word meaning “coming”. Cousins Elizabeth and Mary are brought together as they wait for what is coming. How Elizabeth knew of the child Mary carried may or may not have been outwardly evident. But the Holy Spirit left no doubt in Elizabeth’s mind that the child that was coming was going to change more than just Mary’s world.
Our world has been forever changed by the coming of Christ. We remember the blessing of His coming through Mary and how the Holy Spirit moved the hearts of those who welcomed Him. We anticipate the celebration of the Good News that announced His first Advent, and yet there is the promise of a second Advent. We wait for a time when our world will be changed forever. What is coming is a day when every knee will bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
Does this thought move you? Does it make your heart leap?
Apply
This Advent season will you prepare to celebrate the good news of His first coming, and will you respond to the stirring of the Holy Spirit to be prepared for the world changing coming of His second Advent?
