Devotional Guide for Monday, December 17

Mark 1:1-15

Reflect
Occasionally we get a call or some kind of advance notice from our children that they have a friend, or friends, coming home with them for a meal.  With this message we will make the appropriate adjustments to our home.  Mostly it means making sure we have enough chairs around the table, as well as sufficient place settings and food to fill the plates.  It is a joy to welcome friends into our home and share time around the table with them.
The Christmas carol “Joy to the World” has as its opening line, “Joy to the world, the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room.”  This echoes the opening of the Gospel of Mark which encourages the listener to prepare to receive the King of Kings.

Apply
At Christmas we celebrate the arrival of Jesus.  During this season we fill our calendars with all kinds of great parties, events and traditions.  Don’t forget to set a place for the guest of honour this Christmas. Prepare to receive Him in your planning, in your calendar and most importantly in your heart.
