John 4:39-54
Reflect
My first church planting experience was in a small Brazilian beach town. The Baptist church began because of the conversion of Dona Dalva (Mrs. Dalva). Dona Dalva had a reputation for being a “family destroyer”. The owner of a beach side bar, she served caipirinha (a typical sugar cane alcohol/lime drink), and a large dose of gossip. She was confronted by Jesus as she danced in the Carnaval parade (much like the Apostle Paul). Her changed life became a testimony to the town, causing many to hear the Gospel first out of curiosity, then out of conviction and submission. The same happened with the change in the Samaritan woman. Verse 42 says, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard it ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world.” Further along, we see that the Government official came to Jesus out of faith, for he asked Jesus to heal his son. His faith grew as Jesus assured Him that his son would live, and he acted on His word. This resulted in his whole family believing.

May the changes in our life cause others to seek Him and experience for themselves the transformation that He brings. May we take Him at His word and act in faith, causing those who observe to grow in faith too.
