John 13:31-38
Reflect
I find this passage incredibly convicting. Jesus says quite clearly, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” It’s quite clear what the standard is that Jesus is calling us to, and He says this is how the world around us will recognize us as disciples of Jesus.
If we were to take an honest look at how we treat each other, does it reflect the kind of love that Jesus is talking about in this passage? Sure, with family, close friends, or people who are agreeable enough, we can usually muster up this kind of love. But what about our brothers and sisters of faith who are different than we are, who have different ideas, personalities or backgrounds than us? What are we saying by how we relate to people who we disagree with? Would the world see the love of Christ? Would they recognize us as His disciples? My hope is that I will grow in my love for the people around me, so that others will see Jesus in me. That’s my prayer for all of us today.
