Devotional Guide for Thursday, March 14

1 John 2:3-11

Reflect
In this letter John is addressing false teaching in the church and in doing so gives markers of an authentic Christian faith. This section of the letter looks at obedience to God’s commands as being one of them. “We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands” (v3).  When we know Him we trust in the love He has for us and we trust that what He asks of us is the best.  Following His way leads to life and to us living like Christ.  Knowing Him intimately moves us to obedience and His love is made complete in us.

Apply
What is God asking of you today?  Perhaps God is asking you to know Him deeper, to seek Him first above all else.  Or, maybe He is asking you to trust that He is love and all He commands flows from that love.  Or, today your response may be, “God I will listen and obey.”

Pray for our Missionary of the Week
Kristi TenClay - NAB Cameroon
I teach at Rain Forest International School in Yaounde, Cameroon.  We seek to meet the need of missionary families by providing a high quality, Christ-centred secondary education to appropriately prepare the children of missionaries for their next stage of life.  Right now we have about half missionary kids, and the others are a mixture of local Cameroonians and members of the broader expatriate community. Up to this point I have primarily been a history teacher and taking care of all the technical aspects of our drama department, both of which we have expanded extensively in the past few years.  Next year brings a new challenge, as my role will be changing dramatically.  For the coming school year I will be stepping in as the Interim Director of our school.  Please pray for our school as we live in a state of constant transition and several of our long-term staff members approach retirement in the next few years. Likewise, please pray for me as I step into this new role.
