Luke 22:54-65
Reflect
The hours had been chaotic, violent, fearful, threatening. But right before Jesus’ arrest and the events of this night, Jesus prepared by praying. It was how He received strength from the Father to walk this costly road. By contrast, the disciples fell asleep instead of praying – and we see how the lack of preparation meant Peter was not ready for the battle he would have to face. He followed at a distance, but when accusations of his association with Jesus came, when feeling fearful and threatened, Peter crumbled in response. His courage left him. I wonder if it would have been different had he taken Jesus’ invitation to pray. It speaks to me about how I prepare to fight battles in front of me. In my own strength I will likely crumble, or give in to fear. Prayer is my preparation.

What battles are in front of you this week? Are you creating your own “defense”, or are you investing in prayer for the Lord’s resources to face what comes? What armour is God putting on you right now to respond with His strength and courage?
