Devotional Guide for Wednesday, April 17

Luke 22:65-23:5

Reflect
I once went to the Royal Alex Psych ward at 10pm to visit someone. I flashed my badge to the security person and he motioned me through. When I got to the correct ward, the nurse kind of shook her head and said, “Honey, where do you think you are going?” When I explained, she said, “I got a whole ward of men here thinking they is Jesus – no need for you in there at this time of night!” The truth is, for thousands of years we’ve had people wrestling with what to make of Jesus. Some say He was a disillusioned but well-intentioned man; others say He was all divine. Flowing throughout the Gospels, we find instance after instance of Jesus not only claiming to have equality with God, not only claiming to have Divine Authority, but doing the things that only God could do. That includes creating a pathway to the cross so that He could lovingly sacrifice for humanity. Our only hope rests not in a man like us but in the God who became like us in order to free us. The crucial matter is not what the Jews believed or what Pilate believed, it’s what you believe.
