Luke 23:50-56
Reflect
The Joseph that we read about in this passage was a counter-cultural, courageous kind of guy. He was a member of the Sanhedrin, but he didn’t consent to their plan to have Jesus executed. Not only that, after Jesus was crucified, he was the one to go to Pilate and ask for Jesus’ body, so he could give him a proper burial rather than what executed criminals were usually given. What was different about this man? What gave him the conviction to care so much? It says at the end of verse 51 that he was waiting for the kingdom of God. There was something about Joseph that was so attuned to what God was up to that he had this sense that the kingdom of God was up to something; that Jesus was no ordinary man. When others walked away after Jesus died, he didn’t. He noticed God’s invitation to him to participate in the kingdom of God because of his watchfulness and attentiveness.

What would it look like for us to be a people who were waiting for the kingdom of God?
