Devotional Guide for Monday, April 22

Luke 24:1-12

Reflect
We all have things we hope for.  We hope our favourite team wins or we hope the weather is nice for our picnic. Those kinds of hope could best be described as wishful thinking. We do not know what is going to happen and so we hold our breath and perhaps worry until we see what the end result is.The empty tomb is the beginning of a different kind of hope; not wishful thinking but certain hope. The empty tomb is the first proof of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. That tomb was the focus of so much attention following Jesus’ death. It was sealed and guarded and yet three days later the stone was rolled away, and Jesus was no longer found in it. Jesus appeared to many in the days to follow. This empty tomb is the beginning of a hope realized, proving Jesus did exactly what He said he would.  In 1 Peter 1:3 we are reminded of what kind of hope the resurrection brings us: “According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…”

As we have been reminded of the great love and sacrifice of God during this past week, I pray that we would know the certainty of a living hope that comes from an empty tomb and the risen Christ.
