Devotional Guide for Thursday, April 25

Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:1-11

Reflect
Here we are at the end of Luke and the start of Acts, and as I look at these passages I see the picture of a relay race.  The baton is being passed to the next runner(s).  For a relay to be run successfully, the baton needs to be passed smoothly.  If a smooth pass happens, the race continues without interruption.  Jesus is leaving to take His place in heaven, and He hands the baton off to the disciples to continue the work here on earth.  He instructs them to wait for the gift of the Holy Spirit before they continue on with the race. They return to the temple and continue to praise God and proclaim the fulfillment of Scripture to all who would listen and believe, so they too could carry the baton.

Apply
Where are you at in this relay?  Are you an active runner with the baton securely in your hand?  Are you on the sidelines watching?  Have you given up, thinking it is to hard? Journal your thoughts.
