Psalm 32
Reflect
Reading this Psalm, I recall a missionary talking about the difficulty he was experiencing in his ministry. The people group he worked with had a warped concept of forgiveness. In their culture it was honourable to hold grudges, and shameful/weak to forgive. As a result, they created a society of broken relationships and unhappy people. David begins Psalm 32 by saying that true happiness belongs to those who have been forgiven and as a result, are in true fellowship with God. This relationship with the Father brings to our life undeserved blessings, contrasting the heaviness that unconfessed sin causes. Our undeserved blessings are forgiveness of guilt, renewed closeness, protection, joy, instruction, direction, a watchful eye upon us, unfailing love and rejoicing.
Apply
We are warned to not be like the horse or mule with no understanding. Why is it that so often we delay in confessing, and suffer separation from the lover of our soul? Let us be wise and come quickly to the Father, confessing, and restoring our relationship that brings true happiness.
