Psalm 40
Reflect
While Pastor Daunavan is away on sabbatical, some of our worship leaders will be writing his devotional guide. Each one of these individuals is profoundly gifted and is excited to share a little bit of their hearts with you in addition to what they share on Sunday mornings.
The word “trust” is central to the teachings of Psalm 40. The psalmist, David, writes of his patience as he waits upon the LORD, of the joys of those who don’t put their confidence in worldly things and of the assurance he has in God’s justice and mercy. All these declarations come out of a steadfast trust in God’s work in David’s life. For myself, I am challenged on a daily basis to trust in God for things much smaller than the struggles David went through. How can I say I have put my faith in Christ when simple day to day events shake my understanding? I often feel I must strive to do better. But I am gently reminded in this passage that it is not our actions, nor our striving that God requires of us in our daily walks. Finding joy in His will for us is all He asks (vs6-8). This joy is born out of trust. So let us pray for more trust. Trust that God’s love covers our inadequacies and trust that He is our ever present Helper and Saviour.
