Psalm 100

Reflect
Shout for joy to the Lord.
When was the last time you shouted, and it was simply for the joy you had in your heart? Last weekend our small group was able to spend some time canoeing on a lake in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. As some of us paddled towards the end of the lake, we stumbled upon a spot where the acoustics were amazing, and the echoes lingered. It would sound much more dignified if I could say that we paused to sing an amazing song of worship? But I guess we weren’t in a particularly dignified frame of mind. We were there having fun and so we spent some time just shouting for the sheer joy of being in this mountainous echo chamber. Our shouts were mostly “Helloo”, “Echo o o.” and for some strange reason “Caw Caw”. It was childish, it was silly, but also it was beautiful and, in a strange way as I look back at it now, I believe it was worshiping the Lord with the gladness in our hearts.

Apply
In a world that keeps us rushing from here to there, find some time to shout for joy. If it’s because your team won or your tee shot was amazing, that’s ok too. But find a place where you can shout out for joy and worship God in the gladness of your heart.
