Philippians 1:27-30

Reflect
Paul says it so simply in the beginning of this passage, but it’s actually a pretty profound statement. He writes, “Whatever happens, conduct yourself in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ”. Whatever happens. That’s one of those easier said than done kind of statements. It would be nice if we could re-write it to say, “When things are going well…”, or “When things go the way you planned…”. But that’s not what it says. Whatever happens.
And if that wasn’t clear enough, he goes on in verses 29-30 about how we will not only believe in Christ, but also suffer for Him. So, when he writes, “Whatever happens…”, suffering will be included in that ‘whatever’.
Am I at a place in my relationship with Jesus that I could say whatever happens, I will live a life that is worthy of His gospel? What would need to change for me to get to that place? What worry, or control, or temptation would I have to give up to be there? Whatever happens today, my desire is to live in a manner that is worthy of the gospel of Christ, with His grace and strength.
