Psalm 97

Reflect

This psalm is part of a series of psalms of praise celebrating the kingship of the LORD and affirming His glorious return. His return is so glorious and overwhelming that it will light up the world, shake the earth and even cause the mountains to melt. The psalmist then reminds us that true worship is the basis for experiencing the joy of the LORD and His return, because only the “righteous” and “upright in heart” (v.11) will experience it. The psalmist invites us to “rejoice in the LORD, you who are righteous, and praise His holy name” (v.13).

Apply

How can a spirit of joyous anticipation and a glimpse of the ‘big picture’ change how we see the challenges and speed bumps in our everyday life? Take some time today to ‘look up’, reflect on how each day is connected to eternity and to the hope we have as Christ-followers, that Jesus will return and establish a new world order.
