Psalm 98

Reflect

Psalm 98 describes a joyous celebration, involving more than just the people of Israel.  The psalmist commands all the nations and indeed all of creation to praise God! Sing! Shout! Play the harp! Blast the ram’s horn!  Why?  Because God has made His salvation known.  This psalm prophetically points to the cross of Jesus, stating, “… all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.”  God’s promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3 was not only to make his descendants into a great nation, but also to bless the entire world through that nation.  Jesus would come through Israel to reveal salvation to all the earth.

Why should we be joyful?  As Christians, we have been blessed through Israel’s Messiah.  We could not achieve salvation through our own deeds.  Jesus died to pay the price for our sin to give us the opportunity to accept Him as our Saviour and have our sins forgiven.  We are saved from an eternity separate from God.  Christ is the way to salvation! God is good! Hallelujah!  If you haven’t got a harp or a ram’s horn handy, bang two sticks together to praise God!
