Mark 3:20-30

Reflect

Jesus’ ministry is gaining momentum and His following is increasing and becoming very noticeable. This disturbs His family, who sees His claims and behaviour as unusual and also dangerous, as He challenges authorities and keeps a hectic schedule. It also disturbs the teachers of the law, who criticize Jesus’ ministry and don’t quite know what to make of it. Both His family and the authorities are not attentive to prophecies foretold, and the obvious work of the Kingdom that has come. Jesus is accused of being possessed by Beelzebul (Satan) and so, empowered to cast out spirits. Jesus refutes this accusation by pointing out that Satan would not leave his own possession, for a kingdom or a home that is divided cannot stand. He proclaims His power to defeat Satan by binding him, rescuing people from his possession. Jesus points out the vast forgiveness of sins and the unforgiveness of those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, which is disbelief, an unrepentant heart, deliberate rejection and denial of the work of the Holy Spirit.

Apply

Throughout the years I have seen the work of the Holy Spirit in lives that once were possessed by Satan. The transformation is undeniable. May we live in the freedom of the Holy Spirit’s work in our life and guard our hearts from unbelief.
