Colossians 4:5-6

Reflect

Today we continue with some of Paul’s final instructions for the Colossians.  His first is to be mindful of the opportunities that come our way.  Life is short and we don’t always get another chance to share the Gospel with someone.  We need to pay attention and be bold in sharing.  But we shouldn’t share without taking into consideration our audience.  That’s another part of his final instructions.  We need to have our conversations full of Christian grace and it should be inviting.  Paul used the term ‘salt’ to describe our conversation.  In Paul’s day salt could preserve food, sterilize the food or season it.  Paul wants us to make sure our conversations are flavourful, seasoned so that those we talk with will desire more conversation.  Finally, Paul warns us not to think one approach will work with everyone.  We need to be mindful of who we are talking with so that when we give an answer, it is making sense to them.  Good advice for the Colossians and for us today.  Let’s be attentive to the opportunities God brings our way today and put into practice Paul’s advice.

Pray

  • Pray for all our small group leaders.
  • Pray for our Congregational Life Pastors, Sharon Harewood and Christine Okken.
  • Pray for Crystal Dueck, Greater Europe Mission (GEM). Thank you McKernan for your prayers and support. It truly means a lot! I would not be here in Germany and involved in the ministries that I am in without you. It has been great seeing God grow and change our office, bringing in more workers for the harvest. We have been a hub of activity here as we are finally able to work on projects that have been sitting for years. It is a joy to help others experience Europe through short term missions. Pray for me as I continue to mentor my youth girls.
