Ephesians 5:8-20

Reflect

“We’ll leave the lights on for you” has been the slogan for Motel 6 for over 25 years.  It was meant to be inviting and welcoming for travellers.  Today’s passage tells us that we are the light in the Lord and that we are to live as children of the light.  This living as light should be a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week lifestyle for us as believers, but what does that look like practically?  One commentator gives us a glimpse of what leaving the light on requires:

  • Live continually in the Lord, aware of Him, discerning what is pleasing to Him.
  • Refuse to partner with or participate in sexual sin, greed, inappropriate language, and forms of disobedience.
  • Perform positive action, doing good, righteousness, and truth.
  • Expose the darkness for what it is.

Paul’s challenge to the Ephesians is still applicable to us today.  Let’s let our light shine bright to the world around us.

Pray

  • Pray for all our small group leaders.
  • Pray for our Congregational Life Pastors, Sharon Harewood and Christine Okken.
  • Pray for our daycare – McKernan Child Development Centre. Our “not for profit” centre is administered by a volunteer daycare board made up of members of the church, a supervising pastoral staff member, and the director of the daycare. Our goal is to share God’s love in a practical way to all families while showcasing a team of professionals that excels in the field of Early Learning and childcare.  As a team, it is our desire to share the importance of our profession to our community and appreciate the opportunity to learn along with the children in our care.
