Ephesians 6:5-9

Reflect

We recognize that slavery is still very much a global issue. New reports estimate that in 2016 over 40 million people were victims of modern slavery and 25% of those were children.  We should never close our eyes to these staggering numbers, but seek God’s wisdom and discernment as to ways we can contribute to positive change for those who are being forced into slavery of all kinds around the world.  International Justice Mission (ijm.ca) is one place to find practical ways to make a difference.

This passage can also be applied in our context to employees and employers.  How does Sunday connect with the rest of our week?  Do we see our 9-5 jobs through the week as an opportunity to display Jesus to those we work with and for?  For many of us, we have an opportunity to take faith into the job site, boardroom, classroom and office where there may be no other means of access for a Christian message.  Our work and workplaces should not be seen as realms totally separate from our Sunday lives.  Our work can be a place where we worship God.

RightNow Media has a great section on this topic.
