Reflect
How do you think you would have responded if you were alive when Jesus was physically on the earth? Would you have been skeptical? Would you have embraced Him as King? It’s hard for us to objectively say what our response would have been to our Messiah, and reading the gospels at times only complicates this for us. Jesus is rebuking the crowds because they want ‘a sign’. He has already worked miracles, taught with authority, and showed His power, but that was not enough. Jesus rebukes the crowd for their lack of faith in one of the most condemning ways possible. He compares them to the Ninevites. They would have been considered the worst of the worst by the Jewish people of Jesus' day, but He says that their act of repenting when Jonah preached to them put them in a greater place in the Kingdom than those who saw Jesus but did not put their faith in Him. What kind of ‘sign’ are you looking for from God today? What kind of faith is He inviting you into? Take some time to turn your heart back to Him today.
