Luke 19:28-44

Reflect

Discreetly placed in this passage is a phrase that might ring familiar. Right after the bold proclamation made in verse 38 is the phrase, “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”. Does that sound familiar? Recall Luke 2:14, where the angels proclaimed Jesus’ first entry, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace…”. Does Jesus bring peace on Earth or in heaven? Jesus brings peace on Earth and in heaven, because He brings the two together. Much the same as He brings together Jew/Gentile, male/female, etc. Jesus breaks the human imposed barriers. Well intentioned, but erroneous interpreters of Scripture have made much of our receiving Jesus, so that we experience fullness of life only in heaven after we die. Jesus entered Earth, and then Jerusalem, to bring peace in heaven and here on Earth through those who follow Him. How has your experience of Jesus been hindered by limiting your kingdom desires to the afterlife? Prayerfully ask Jesus how He desires to bring peace through your participation.
