Preparation for Sunday, June 24

Luke 19:1-10

Preparation for Sunday

Today Pastor Lyle will continue the theme of “Walking With Jesus” by exploring the story of Zacchaeus.  For the vast majority of people in his hometown of Jericho, Zacchaeus was looked down upon as someone who turned his back on God to get what culture offered.  He was financially successful and yet quite thoroughly secular.  As such, he represents many of the successful secular people who live around us. As we journey with Jesus into Jericho, we have much to learn about the lens through which Jesus looked at this man who was largely written off by most people in his town.

Apply

  • In what ways can we be blinded to the real need of those in our culture whose circumstances suggest they are successful?
  • What do you think Jesus sees when He looks at your co-workers, neighbours and any other people you interact with in your daily life?
  • After listening to this morning’s message, how do you believe God is asking you to respond?
  • Ask God to work in our congregation and in your heart as we gather to worship Him today.

Pray

  • Pray for all who will be involved in our services today.
  • Pray that God would effectively be at work in our church and in all His churches throughout our city today.
  • Pray for our Children’s Ministry Director, Jerilyn Bayer and her interns Emily Okken, Bailey Garbutt, Joel Faszer, Amanda Supina, Kimberly Richardson, Mitchell Buyer, and Kiersten Moline.
