2 Samuel 5:1-14

Reflect

At the age of 30, David has finally come to the place where he is king over Israel. A lot has happened between David’s victory over Goliath, which most believe happened he was around 16 years old, and this time.  There have been promises of kingship, and an anointing to reinforce that.  There has been a growing favour among the people and a growing separation between David and Saul.  Through all these years David has had more than one opportunity to take the throne, and yet he waited.  David believed God would establish him when the time was right.  Now we see the fulfillment of that promised reign.  David, in this part of his life, sets a high standard for trusting God to come through at the right time.  The waiting period was no easy experience, and yet through that David learned some valuable lessons in the meantime.

Are you waiting on God for some particular situations and/or circumstances?  Take heart and trust God’s perfect timing.  In the Psalms (18:30 and 37:7) as well as other places in Scripture, we are reminded of God’s timing and the fact that God doesn’t arrive late.
