Reflect
I will never forget the night sky at the camp where I grew up. I can still close my eyes and “see” the multitude of stars and remember the wonder. The first pattern I looked for was the Southern Cross, reminding me of the Creator and His love for me. Psalm 8 is a psalm of praise. It begins and ends with: “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!” His praise comes from the beauty and mystery of creation – the work of His finger – denoting delicate and tender care. His praise comes from the mouths of innocent and dependent babes, and many times it does not come from the mouths of the schooled and lofty. His praise comes from the human heart that recognizes the position the Creator has placed him in, giving dominion over His awesome creation.
Apply
When you “consider” the work of His fingers (v.3), ask yourself “who am I that you are mindful of me?” (v.4.) Thank Him for the fact that He “crowned you with glory and honour” (v.5) and has made you manager of this beautiful creation that was made for His glory and our good. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
