Acts 6:1-7
Reflect
The early Church has been presented with a dilemma. They’ve got a practical problem, amidst a calling to spread the gospel. Core callings. Where should they focus? We can’t be just one sided in ministry. We can’t be only discipleship and evangelism and not see there are practical needs we should meet. We can’t only concentrate on social gospel and ignore the real gospel, that people need a saving relationship with Christ. That’s why it was so important that the growing leadership was “full of the Holy Spirit AND wisdom” (v.3). A body of Christ must have a commitment to listen deeply to the ways the Holy Spirit is leading us, and be courageous as He calls to follow, practically and personally.
Apply
Do you lean more toward participating in ministry in practical areas – or ministry to spiritual needs? Ask Jesus how He might invite you to intertwine both. How can you lean into Him today and ask for a renewed filling of the Spirit and His wisdom for the areas you serve Him?
