Acts 15:22-35

Reflect

I heard an interesting word recently: irenic. Its definition is “aimed at peace”. It is practised in Christianity by majoring on the major points of salvation through Christ, and minoring on the minors.  Whatever is not essential to the Gospel, we don’t let trip us up or divide us.  The Council in Acts is majoring on majors for the Gentile believers.  What is most important is the Gospel truth, and right relationship in community.  Though the Council gives some suggestions to help new Gentile believers along, it’s clear that salvation, not external practise is most important to following Jesus.

Apply

What are the majors of the faith you know to be foundational to your salvation and walk with Christ? How are you inviting others to core truths about following Jesus?  Is there any place in community where minors are getting too much emphasis, or tripping you or others up?  How can we surrender that to the Lord?
