Devotional Guide for Monday, October 22

Acts 17:1-9

Reflect
Paul spent a number of weeks in Thessalonica reasoning at the synagogue, and through his presentation of the Gospel, lives were changed.  What an exciting time that must have been.  The good news of Jesus was impacting not just the Jews but also many Greeks and some of the more prominent women in the city.  Of course, whenever the good news is changing lives for Christ, the enemy of the Gospel does his best to shut it down.  By twisting the message of the Gospel, those who were jealous of the success of Paul and his companions found ways to stir up those unsavoury characters who were looking for a reason to riot.

Apply
How do we respond when God uses us in ways that are exciting?  Do we give Him glory?
How do we respond when it seems like Satan has taken back ground that we thought was won for Christ?  Sometimes we can get discouraged when things don’t go how we want them to.  If the discouragement comes because of roadblocks to the Gospel, remember that Jesus has told us the gates of Hell will not prevail against the spreading of the Good News.
