Devotional Guide for Wednesday, November 14

Acts 28:1-10

Reflect
Ninety-two years ago today, my recently passed mother in law was born. One memory I have about her is that she never treated me fairly. In today’s passage, we see that Paul was bitten by a viper. The locals concluded that this must have been deserved. Paul was being held as a convict, so surely justice would come upon him by his imminent death. In other words, he did bad, so it was only fair that he had something bad come upon him (kind of a karma thing, or perhaps eye for eye, tooth for tooth). When Paul did not die, he was made to be a god. He was not that, but he was filled by the One that is, and out of a hard incident, the Way of Jesus was proclaimed. That Way is the way that my mother in law lived. She always treated me way better than fair – she treated me with grace (giving me that which was way better than I deserved) Why? Because she had received that same grace from Jesus, and became a grace giver, rather than someone who treated others fairly.

How are you stuck in being fair? Look for an opportunity to treat someone with grace today. I’d love to hear about it!
