CONNECTION BETWEEN FAITH AND HEALING
by Hannah Rempel
Faith and healing - what is the connection? Here are some questions you might be asking yourself: “Why am I sick?” “What have I done or have not done?” “When is sickness the result of sin (my sin, sins of others or part of the fallen world)?” You might think: “I have prayed, read, surrendered and had a respectful fit before God.” Like many of you, I have struggled with illness in my own family and asked God the same sorts of questions.
The song below might express part of our journey to the answers to these questions:
“There’s a place of quiet stillness ‘tween the light and shadows reach
Where the hurting and the hopeless seek everlasting peace. . .
Mending grief and life eternal where joy and sorrow meet
. . . And tears that fall on Jesus’ feet
Where joy and sorrow meet
There’s a place the lost surrender and the weary will retreat. . .
For the wounded there is healing, strength is given to the weak
Broken hearts find love redeeming where joy and sorrow meet
. . .There is hope in desperation there is victory in defeat
At the cross of restoration where joy and sorrow meet”
~Excerpts from Avalon’s song “Where Joy and Sorrow Meet”
Sometimes it seems as if God’s economy is upside down compared to the world’s perspective, but we can take comfort in the knowledge that joy and sorrow can meet at the feet of Jesus! If you have questions about your physical health, if you need an advocate as you walk through the medical system or if you have found yourself feeling empty, please contact me. I, or someone else in our healing prayer ministry, will endeavour to support you in your journey of healing.
