About This Blog...

This devotional guide is designed to help you in your walk with God.  The goal of each day’s reading is for you to communicate with God; to hear from Him through His Word, and to respond in prayer.   In order to meet this goal, I encourage you to keep a daily journal of your time with God.  I have found it helpful to use the following four categories when I journal...

  • Scripture: Write out a verse or verses that especially spoke to you.
  • Observation:  Briefly write down the truth that is expressed in the verse.
  • Application: Reflect on how the truth of this verse can be lived out in your life.  Record these reflections.  The thoughts expressed by the pastoral staff each day can help you in your observation and application.
  • Prayer: Write out a prayer of response to God.  Thank Him for the truth He has shown you.  Ask for His wisdom and strength as you seek to apply this truth.

May God bless you as you journey with Him through His Word.

21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” 24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you--and even more. 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.” (Mark 4:21-25, NIV).

Reflect

Jesus has just explained the parable of the soils by challenging His disciples to have receptive hearts that are open and teachable before Him.  Now, He expands on this in today’s passage by stating that He will continue to reveal truth to them (vs. 21-23 speak to His intent to shine light) and by challenging them to take seriously what He says (vs. 24-25).  In essence, He tells them that deeper understanding is granted to those who are careful to apply what He has shown them.  By contrast, those who treat His teaching flippantly will not be granted greater understanding.  Truly, Jesus stresses the importance of acting on what He shows us to be true!!

Apply

  • In what areas of your life has your obedience lagged behind your understanding?  Ask God’s Spirit to work in your life so that you more consistently apply what you know to be God’s truth.

Pray

  • Pray that God’s Spirit would work powerfully and effectively in all the various activities taking place on our church calendar this weekend.
  • Pray for our Property Development Team.
  • Pray for these missionaries our church supports, Nick & Iris Hung in Nigeria.
  • Pray for the NAB Conference in Chicago.
  • Pray for the nation of Canada. Pray that God would bring spiritual renewal to Edmonton and the churches in our land.
