McKernan Deepen conference 2024

McKernan Baptist Church’s annual Deepen Conference is an incredible opportunity to be equipped for life’s adventure. This Conference is all about the opportunity to encounter Jesus and one another. One weekend experiencing that encounter can change your life forever!

An encounter with God energizes, encourages, and equips us for a greater transformation of ourselves and of our entire world. You can expect awesome Spirit-filled worship, inspirational keynote speaker, interactive breakout sessions, opportunities to enhance relationships, and many occasions for prayer ministry.

Registration is Closed.

“…First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.” - Jesus

We live every day in a culture where involuntary bias, inequity, woundedness, unforgiveness, and apathy are among many other reasons for us to identify that we have deep-rooted issues and are desperate for healing. When we are troubled in our soul the conflicts in our lives cause us to withdraw. Having those broken areas of our lives healed by Jesus keeps us faithful and radiant.

“…‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’” - Jesus

We live every day in a culture where the needs of many desperate people are being neglected. Many others benefit from compassionate activism that is untethered to Jesus Christ. It would be easy to view the church environment as one that is not motivated to activate the wellbeing of those outside the church building.

Activism requires the Inner Healing that Jesus alone provides. Inner Healing engages us to be Active for the good of others. Jesus is always at the Centre. Join with us for ‘Activism and the Inner Life’ as Jesus’ transformative love shape us.

“If a person has grasped the meaning of God’s grace in his heart, he will do justice. If he doesn’t live justly, then he may say with his lips that he is grateful for God’s grace, but in his heart he is far from him. If he doesn’t care about the poor, it reveals that at best he doesn’t understand the grace he has experienced, and at worst he has not really encountered the saving mercy of God. Grace should make you just.”
- Tim Keller Generous Justice

Breakout Sessions

A-1 Listening To God

Minn Yoon & Ama Danjuma, SATURDAY 10:45am – noon

Scripture flows with the confident message from those that have listened to God. We believe that God continues to speak. In a noisy age that pack our mind with so many voices, how do we discern God’s voice? Listening to God includes a heartfelt desire to for God’s guidance. Heartfelt means we are yearning of God’s authoritative guidance over all the other voices shouting us, and we are willing to pause, listen, and move with what He impresses upon us.

A-2 Saving Us

Tyler Shannon, SATURDAY 10:45am - noon

Wildfires. Hurricanes. Blizzards. Drought. The extreme effects of climate change are frightening – and threaten every aspect of our daily lives. Join us for a hopeful message by award winning Christian climate scientist Katharine Hayhoe as she expresses that the most important thing we can do to address climate change is to talk about it – and she wants to teach us how.

B-1 How Woundedness Impacts Mental Health and Practical Ways of Coping

Dr. Adam Howorko, SATURDAY, 2:30pm - 3:45pm

From the womb to the tomb no one escapes the traumas of life. We know that God will one day wipe away every tear for those who love Him but meanwhile there is hope and guidance for coping with woundedness resulting from trauma. Tools will be offered for people who have been traumatized and for those who care for them, to help move towards physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual wholeness.

B-2 Sojourner’s Stories

Bethany Kaposhi, SATURDAY, 2:30pm - 3:45pm

There are currently well over 100 million people forcibly displaced in the world. Whether they are 1 or 91, they all have a story that we need to listen to. They are starting over and desire to be a benefit to society. It’s not simply moving to Canada for a better life. It’s a matter of survival. Their story will leave you in awe of their courageous resilience, the merciful hand of God, and the compassion of the Jesus followers that have heeded God’s calling to be involved.

CHILDREN'S CONFERENCE

Saturday, 9am – noon (Basement Multi-Purpose Room)

This is not just ‘child care.’ The morning will be packed with opportunities for children under the age of 12 to be captivated by the love of God, and instrumental to their spiritual development.  Choices made in the home and the church can promote or puncture a child’s longing for Jesus. Allow us to inflate your child with a healthy love for Jesus.

Childcare is only available in the morning. Please be sure to pick up your children before lunch.

Partnering Organizations

So, what is the interplay between caring for our inner life and being active in our culture’s greatest needs? We have asked a few of our close partnering organizations to come and help us also embrace a way of life that has the greatest potential.
