Refugee Assistance

Between the years 2000-2010, the number of displaced people around the world hovered at around 40 million/year. Since 2010, there has been a massive increase. We currently have more than 80 million of our global neighbours displaced. They have been forced from their homes out of fear for their lives and freedom. We have all seen the recent news from Ukraine. The images are piercing.

The government of Canada committed to allowing at least 400,000 newcomers to Canada each year. More recently, our government is swiftly creating avenues to allow many from Ukraine to be in Canada. Our global neighbours be will increasingly attending the same schools as our children and shopping at the same stores as us.

We must ask ourselves, "How are we welcoming the stranger?"

Love the sojourner, therefore, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.
- Deut. 10:19

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
- Matt. 25:35

UPDATE ON MAY 13, 2022

This has been a very pivotal few days as our faithful Father has been guiding the Lushchyk family from their home in Ukraine to Poland.

After almost two days travelling together and many very challenging events, they were able to persevere by the grace of God.

Praise God that:

They were able to locate diesel for the journey. They were able to navigate the many challenges internally and externally. We have been able to continue our communication

Please continue to pray:

That their journey to their destination of Krakow, and then Warsaw, would be accomplished. That there would be much grace and love shared with one another. That the biometrics, visa, flights, etc… would go smoothly. That Sasha’s medication would be secure. That we would be prepared for their arrival.

Thank you again and again for partnering with one another to accomplish far more than any of could do on our own.

We give God all the praise as He guides all of our lives for His glory and our deep satisfaction.

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” 2 Peter 1:3

If you have not yet been connected with. You may be so in the next couple of days. If not, let me know.

Lushchyk plus – The Lushchyk family, along with the maternal grandmother, and two close friends are preparing to depart Ukraine on May 13. Sasha’s message to me today indicated many missiles flying overhead and a real urgency to get going. They hope to be able to leave within the next week. The plan is to go to Poland, do the biometrics, visa, flights, etc… and come to Canada as soon as possible.  This could involve a number of weeks of waiting still.

Housing – we are exploring options for them to all live together in a south side house. We were planning for them to arrive earlier, but now it looks like we should plan for July 1.

Fund – Thank you again and again. At last report we have received $79,778. Praise God indeed! This means that we are planning to include the full 9 people. We will continue to keep the fund active as we will bring overspreading families as long as we are able. Thanks again, this truly a testimony to God’s leading and the church’s attentiveness to her call.

 Prayer :

Protection from the danger that is all around for the Lushchyks

The ability to serve those in their Church community as they prepare to depart. The MBC core team as many decisions are made. Continued mercies from God through the entire ministry.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to connect with Pastor Dan.
