Here are some things that happen during church:
Read our Welcome Magazine for the latest information.
WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIc
We will sing several songs throughout the service (hymns as well as more contemporary songs) as a corporate act of worship.
MESSAGE
Each service incorporates a teaching portion (a sermon) from one of our pastoral staff, or occasionally a guest speaker. To watch past sermons on demand, click here.
PRAYER
During every service we will have a time of corporate prayer. One of the pastoral staff will lead the congregation in prayer.
GIVING OF OUR TITHES & OFFERING
An offering box is available for our regular attenders to give back a portion of what God has blessed them with. If you are unable to locate the offering box, just ask one of our volunteers. Please do not feel any obligation to participate.
SERVING OF COMMUNION
We participate in taking Communion once a month, generally on the first Sunday of the month. We eat a small piece of bread or cracker and drink a small amount of juice from individual cups as a continuing memorial of the broken body and shed blood of Christ. It is an act of thankful dedication to Him and serves to unite His people until He returns. If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour (a believer) you are welcome to participate in this ordinance as well. Please do not feel obligated to participate.
WATER BAPTISM
Here at McKernan Baptist Church we baptize by immersion. This is a public declaration of a believer’s personal commitment to Christ. Usually, the individual gives a testimony of what Christ has done in their life, then the pastor immerses the individual in a pool of water as a symbol of dying to self and being raised to life in Christ.
CHILD DEDICATION
Child dedication is an act of the parents dedicating themselves to raise their child in the ways of Christ. Generally the parents say a few words about the child and to the child. Following this a pastor will pray for the child and the parents. This does not constitute salvation for the child, rather a desire to see the child raised up in the knowledge of Christ so that one day they will be able to make a decision for themselves.
COMMISSIONING
We regularly have the privilege of commissioning McKernan attenders as they follow God’s leading into various ministry appointments, short-term and long-term missions opportunities. This often involves a brief overview of the work they are planning to do, followed by a prayer to send them out.
