Retreat Leader: Allan Effa
Allan grew up in Brazil where he and his sister (Jerilyn Bayer) were missionary kids. After attending NABC in Edmonton and graduating with his MDiv from Sioux Falls Seminary he served for 8 years as a missionary in a remote part of Nigeria. Midway through his term he married Karen who enhanced their ministry with her nursing skills. Allan went on to pursue a MTh in Missiology and a PhD in Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. He taught at Taylor College and Seminary for 30 years, primarily in the area of mission and spiritual formation. While at Taylor, he led four groups of students on a 300 km walk/pilgrimage on the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Allan enjoys cycling, running, gardening, cooking, camping, and watching soccer. Allan and Karen have two adult daughters and a 7-month-old granddaughter.
