Jeremiah 50:1-6, 17-20
Reflect
Jeremiah was a prophet who predicted Judah’s Babylonian exile. In this chapter we see God acting on their behalf, punishing the King of Babylon and then bringing His people back home. As I read these verses, what stands out to me is the sovereignty and faithfulness of God. God used the Babylonians both to punish and free His people. The Babylonians were a great nation with a powerful reach but they were never in control. I need this reminder, that no matter the political climate or who is voted to run our government, it is God alone who is in control and He can use whatever He decides to bring about His purposes. The next thing I see is God’s faithfulness. The Israelites were not faithful to the covenant they made with God. Their unfaithfulness did not determine God’s faithfulness. Verse 20 says, “for I will forgive the remnant I spare.” God was faithful to forgive and to establish a new covenant that began with the death of Jesus.

Whatever your day holds, be reminded today that our God is sovereign and He is faithful--faithful to lead us and to forgive us.

I have been given the opportunity to move to Yaoundé and teach history, include Biblical references, and use English as a building block to express your opinion. I’m really excited about teaching Humanities in an MK school in the capital. But I’ve never taught it this way and the preparation work will be a challenge. Please pray that I will be able to do my job well (getting up at 5 am, planning, teaching), that I will be a living example of Christ for my students, and that the problems in the NW and SW Cameroon will be resolved.
