Devotional Guide for Friday, February 14

Matthew 11:25-30

Reflect
Today’s passage is one of my favourite in the whole Bible. I could preach entire sermons on it, so rather than trying to get deep into the theology of this passage, I encourage you today to read it through in a few different translations (The Message has an amazing paraphrase you can find online). We live in a world where we are so often assigned value or worth based on what we do but God, through Jesus, bases our worth on us as we are. He doesn’t say “come to me when you have it all figured out” or “come to me when you have done all the right things”. He says, “Come to me, all you weak and heavy laden… Come to me… as you are.” His invitation comes with a promise: “I will give you rest!” Not only does He invite us to come as we are, He promises that we won’t stay that way. When we come to Him burdened, weak, heavy, He meets us there and satisfies those deep longings of our hearts.
