Psalm 55

Reflect

Have you ever experienced distress because of something you are afraid of or are frustrated by? There have been times in my life where I have quietly stewed over both fears and frustrations.  Inside my head I run through different scenarios where my fears or frustrations could be removed, or I could have done things differently. But there are times (more often than I care to admit) where all the “why’s” and “if only’s” stay in my head and I end up getting more and more worked up about them. Here, David seems to go through a similar progression reflecting on how he has responded to both the fears and frustrations of his life.  But when he brings all the conflicting thoughts and emotions before the Lord, telling God what has happened and his own ideas of what could be done to resolve matters, David ultimately comes to the place where he decides he will trust God with the outcome.

Apply

What fears and frustrations are you dealing with? Are you keeping them to yourself? David comes before the Lord and shares all his thoughts, the good and the not so good. By the end of this psalm David encourages us to cast our cares on the Lord, and trust God with them. Will you do this also?
