Psalm 135

Reflect
The Guinness Book of World Records was a very popular library book when I was in school. It was and continues to be filled with the amazing, interesting and sometimes bizarre achievements of individuals throughout history and in the present day. Some records are truly worthy of praise for their accomplishments, while others are worthy of little more than wondering why someone would do such a thing. We commend those who have acted selflessly for the sake of others, like centenarian Toom Moore, who in April of this year broke a record held by Canadian Terry Fox for most funds raised by a charity walk. Others, like the fastest 100 metre hurdles while wearing scuba flippers leave us wondering why this is worthy of a record.

This Psalmist reminds us of more than just fun facts, but of the truly praiseworthy reasons why God above all others is worthy of our praise. To understand better what it means to praise the Lord I went to Biblestudytools.com where we are reminded of words used synonymously with “praise”. These include “bless”, “exalt”, “extol”, “glorify”, “magnify” and “thank”.  Truly our God is worthy not just of notoriety but of true praise for who He is and what He has accomplished.
