Isaiah 10:5-19

Reflect

One of the dangers that I find myself often running into is this idea that I have accomplished things in my life solely based on my own skills and abilities. Like, “Look at all that I have done. Look at the things that I have made happen.” It’s easy to fall into that because we spend years studying or practicing and putting in the work to be able to achieve certain things and it can be easy to feel like it has all been up to us. This is how the Assyrians were talking in the passage today. They were attributing all their success to their abilities.
It's at times like this I’m reminded of the lyrics of one of my favourite worship songs, Great Are You Lord, which says in the chorus: “It’s Your breath, in my lungs, so I’ll pour out my praise.” Sure, we may have put in a lot of time and work to become successful in one thing or another, but when it all gets boiled down, it’s because God breathed life into us that we even have the opportunity to do these things. We have so much more to attribute to God than we’ll even realize. Let’s give Him thanks and praise His name today.
