John 12:1-11
Reflect
Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Lent Season. From this day until Resurrection Sunday we dedicate specifically as a time of somber reflection on God’s great love for us and, indeed, God’s great call for us to embrace who we really are. To do so, we need to confront how selfish we can become as we struggle with denying our false self while we try to grasp our authentic self. This resource: www.mckernanbaptist.ca/40days would be good for you to obtain. This past year we have had many reminders of our call to Biblical justice. We will see this clearly identified as we journey through John’s Gospel. There is an urgency in our culture for the message of Jesus that calls us to not fear those different than us, but to sit at the table together and listen to one another. Deliberately pause as you read the name of every person in today’s passage and reflect upon what you know about them, and what Jesus knows about them. These are broken people united by Jesus shortly before He goes to the cross. Jesus calls us to a justice-seeking faith that shows kindness for the “other”, the disregarded. Doing so reveals the healing and reconciling power of Jesus. Will you join me as we pray that this Lent journey may strengthen us all as we seek and work to follow our crucified and resurrected Lord Jesus daily as He welcomes the outsider?
