Devotional Guide for Monday, April 12

Mark 6:30-44

Reflect

Walt Disney was a very creative man known to challenge those people he worked with to search out ways to improve an idea or a concept rather than shoot down the idea with what they didn’t like about it. Those who worked closely with him said Disney encouraged those around him to tackle problem with a “Yes, if…” rather than a “No, because…” attitude. The Walt Disney Company has become an organization known for its creativity and innovation, perhaps due in part to this culture of looking for what can be done. Here in Mark 6, Jesus confronts the disciples in their “No, because” attitude regarding feeding the crowd. Jesus asks them to search out what they do have and bring it to Him.

Apply

Jesus’ focus goes far beyond just providing entertainment, or a simple meal for a crowd. He calls His followers to share the bread of life and the living water with those who will hear. The challenge we face can seem daunting at times, and we can get caught up in finding all the reasons why we could not do what Jesus is calling us to do. What has Jesus called you to do? What is Jesus wanting you to bring to Him? What is it that He wants you to trust Him with?
