Mark 6:45-56

Reflect

While we lived at a guest house for Christian workers, someone had ordered food for a birthday party of 20 guests. Eventually there were about 40.  I was stressed about the amounts. A friend and I prayed for the situation and the food fed all, with some to spare. My friend said, “You experienced the feeding of the 5,000.” I walked away, trying to explain what happened. This is where our passage picks up. Did the disciples try to explain with their little minds what happened at the feeding of 5,000? It says, “Their hearts were hardened.” Had they not just witnessed Jesus overrule the law of “nature”?
Jesus urged them into the boat. Was it to show them an even bigger undeniable overruling of nature so they would get it? In this situation of His friends’ struggling, Jesus did not launch into a long sermon. "He intended to pass by them." (v48) He wanted them to approach Him, opening their view to the fact that He was and is God! Once on the other side, many people recognized Him and had no hesitation to trust His miraculous powers.

Apply

As you pray, trust the Lord completely. He is able! Have courage in bringing anything to Him and know that Jesus can! Then give the glory and thanks to Him!
