Proverbs 13:1-12

Reflect

The older I get, the more I realize the importance of integrity. Integrity is a virtue that has been defined as "sincerity of heart and intention, truthfulness, uprightness…"
When I think of a person or thing with integrity, I think of someone or something that can be trusted, consistent, is not one way in one context and a different way in another. One of the Proverbs in today's reading is, "Righteousness guards the person of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner." Following in the ways of God (righteousness) literally keeps the person of integrity from demise, while wickedness destroys those who give in to it.
When you think about it, this really is a command to be taken seriously. What does a life of integrity look like to you? What would the people who know you best say about you? Would it be similar to those who don't know you well or only see you “at your best”? I encourage you today to embrace integrity. Wherever you see inconsistencies in yourself, repent from them and ask Jesus to help you walk in righteousness.
