Romans 4:16-25
Reflect
The other day, I was waiting by myself. Being me, I struck up a conversation with the person close to me. We soon discovered that we both confess Jesus Christ as Lord. How marvelous! As we rejoiced over this, we fumbled into a conversation that rested upon grace and what transpired through the death and resurrection of Jesus.
My new friend is highly educated and vehemently denies that at the core of the Gospel is that Jesus died for our sins. Rather, he politely insisted that a Kingdom unlike any other is central to the Gospel and all that “atonement theology” is 9th century manipulation meant to keep people in bondage and guilt.
Throughout history, Christianity has been involved in some of the most heroic and life transforming movements known to humanity. Admittedly, Christianity has also been at the forefront of some of the darkest and evil movements that have existed. Romans has some of the most profound doctrinal teachings found in Scripture.
As you come to this daily devotional time, what evidence is there that you are eager to wrestle with what faith, grace and justification mean? How is your understanding impacting those that you interact with? What faith steps are next for you in order to fulfil your calling?
