Devotional Guide for Tuesday, November 23

1 Corinthians 14:26-40

Reflect

Reading through todays passage, I smile to myself since I don’t think McKernan’s service has any troubles with keeping order. However, Paul addresses not only a Sunday service. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. (v26) The early Christians did not only gather on Sundays. Other passages suggest they were gathering daily in their homes.

We have small groups and friendships during the week. What would it mean to do everything, so that the church may be built up? “When you come together, each of you has a hymn, a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue, an interpretation.”(v26b)

Apply

As you live out your faith in your relationship with other members of God’s family, keep in mind that everything has a bigger purpose. We are all called to be co-workers for God’s kingdom. So instead of comparing and arguing, focus on the common goal. Be open, intentional and deep in your meetings! Share a song that was meaningful, what you are reading in your devotions, or when you told someone about Jesus. Challenge each other to memorize Scripture, ask each other about questions and doubts, pray with each other, not only for each other!  Encourage and challenge one another to spur each other on for growth in faith. Where can you become more open and honest in your relationships?
