Devotional Guide for Monday, December 6

Genesis 3:8-15

Reflect

These verses start out showing how God desires to have fellowship with us and how sin breaks that close relationship.
Satan (the serpent) is our enemy. He will do anything he can to get us to follow his evil, deadly path. The phrase “you will strike his heel” refers to Satan’s repeated attempts to defeat Christ during his life on Earth. “He will crush your head” foreshadows Satan’s defeat when Christ rose from the dead. A strike on the heel is not deadly but a crushing blow to the head is. Already, God was revealing His plan to defeat Satan and offer salvation to the world through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus opens the way for us to renew our fellowship with Him. God longs to be with us. He actively offers His unconditional love.

Apply

Let us anticipate the birth of Jesus in this advent season. As we prepare ourselves for Jesus’ second coming, may God give us a deep desire to want to have a closer relationship with Him until then.
