Isaiah 9:1-17

Reflect
“Hope is the last one to die”, is an expression commonly used in Brazil, meaning that while there is hope, there is still a chance for things to change.

I recently participated in a Webinar where the speaker said that the most important thing we as pastors can offer people is hope. Praise God that He gives us hope!

In today’s passage we see that the world was full of distress, darkness and gloom, and in the midst of all this, dawned a great light. This great Light is the Child that was born – Christ the Lord! He is our hope, and the hope that we can extend to those around us who are also in distress, darkness and gloom.

Reflect on these words from the carol “Oh Holy Night”:
“…Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born.”

May we experience a thrill of hope in our weary soul this season, falling on our knees with a grateful heart for the most wonderful gift of Jesus! May we extend this hope to other weary souls around us, especially at Christmastime!
